COLD LIGHT SINGING
The Pendle Witches Story

A tense, atmospheric play, inspired by the true story of the Pendle Witches

"Lancashire, 1612.  Dark forces envelop the county. Fear and suspicion infect the population."

In 2004, Function Factory premiered "Cold Light Singing" at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where the play gained acclaim from both critics and audiences alike before embarking on a tour of northern England.

Now in its fifth  year of touring, "Cold Light Singing' has had sell out performances in venues as diverse as village halls, traditional theatres and in Lancaster Castle itself, where the real life "witches' were imprisoned and tried.

The play has also attracted a degree of media attention featuring on BBC Radio 4's "Woman's Hour" and cable TV station Channel M.

Set entirely in the cells and courtroom of Lancaster Castle, the play follows the story of three of the women accused of witchcraft, their jealousies, their secrets and ultimately their courage in the face of adversity. Although based on real events and rooted in historical accuracy, "Cold Light Singing is essentially a story about humanity and friendship which you won't find in the history books.
